Ben Hayes Such a delicious disorientation. At any moment the music feels ready to fall apart, but it's so masterfully crafted it stays perfectly woven together. A sensory maelstrom that I am loving getting lost in. Favorite track: Gratitude.

about

"A soulful electronic soundscape of falling jazz chord progressions and broken interchanging time signatures." Stamp the Wax

Albert’s Favourites are excited to launch a new journey today. Pie Eye Collective has been a part of the family for a little while, working with Hector Plimmer and Scrimshire on studio and live performances, he has also played alongside Emma-Jean Thackray and And Is Phi.

Pie Eye Collective is the solo project of sound scientist and explorer Matthew Gordon.

While at its heart electronica, Gordon creates an organic collage of influences and evocative noises, even drawing from jazz and soul music. Time signatures and rhythms, sometimes hard to pin down, only lead to a more hypnotic sense of being afloat in a sea of harmonics and strangely familiar musical memories.

It is music that wants you to completely free yourself and let it move through you.

Debut single Gratitude captures not only the essence of the sound, but the core ideas around the artists mental health and personal challenges, remaining afloat and even creative in the world today. In his own words:

"Gratitude is kinda like a spell. I've been actively trying to embody gratitude over the past few years and it has proven to be a really positive addition to my life.

I feel grateful for being alive because I know what it feels like to not feel that way.

I also feel grateful for the opportunity to share my music, contribute to human culture, and to be alive at this time and witness some of the monumental breakthroughs in science and technology."

Gordon’s music is influenced by much outside of sound itself, be it mathematics, imagery, symbology, history. To represent this, there are many symbols used in the art for the album project, visualised and rendered in 3D by Albert’s Favourites label co-founder Jonny Drop.

The first, is known as the international symbol of gratitude.
