about

“If Salvation is the music of Matthew's brain, not only am I glad he's finally found the tools out here in this world with which to channel it, but I'm also hungry for more. Never less than immersive…” Backseat Mafia

"Gordon could well be a star in the making though because Salvation - his first full-length proper - is genuinely excellent." Juno Records

Pie Eye Collective is the solo project of Bristol-born, London-based sound scientist Matthew Gordon who melds elements of ambient, broken beat, dub-techno and hip hop; processed via a spectrum of tape saturated synthesis.

His influences are many and stylistically diverse, including Sun Ra, Morton Feldman and Madlib, but is also heavily influenced by much outside of music including mathematics, imagery, symbology or history.

Having recently remixed Rōnin Arkestra’s ‘Tempestuous Temperaments’, Matthew has previously worked and played with Emma-Jean Thackray, Scrimshire, And Is Phi, and Hector Plimmer.

His debut album feels endlessly playful, a joy in sound making and rhythmic complexity is consistent even in the darker moments. While there's clearly been much thought put into the compositions, they never feel contrived, the opposite, they feel fresh and full of new ideas captured in a moment.
